General Instructions for Teacher of the Year 2001-2002 Application

 The following items should be included in your San Diego City Schools “Teacher of the Year” application packet:

 General Application

 Complete the enclosed one page application form.  Please note: Application materials are available on disk in Microsoft Word 6.0 and Claris Works 4.0.  If you would like the application on disk, send a blank disk with your return address to Melissa Hamilton, Institute Support and Professional Development, IMC, Building A.  Application material may also be sent attached to e-mail in one of the above formats.  Please e-mail your request for the attachment to Melissa Hamilton: mhamilto@mail.sandi.net.

 Application Essay

 Attach to your application an essay that highlights:

·         Factors that influenced you to become a teacher.

·         A description of what you consider to be your greatest contributions to, or accomplishments in, education.

·         Your philosophy of teaching and your personal teaching style.

·         How you would assist teachers in becoming exemplary.

·         How, if you are selected as District Teacher of the Year, you would serve as an ambassador for the teaching profession, and communicate to the public and profession the importance of teaching.

 Your essay must be between 4-6 pages in length and must be typed and double-spaced using a font size of 12 or greater.

 Letters of Recommendation

 A maximum of six letters of recommendation may be included with this nomination packet.  They may be from students, parents, teachers, principals or other administrators, community members, etc.

 Please Note:  No material other than those noted above will be accepted.

 All materials must be submitted to Melissa Hamilton (858) 496-1891, Institute Support and Professional Development, IMC, Building A by 5 p.m., Wednesday February 28, 2001.  Faxed copies will not be accepted.
