Brief Explanation: |
|||
| In order to accomplish the extensive work that is required to
have facilities in place by the opening of school next year, enrollment forecasting and
facilities planning for the 2001-02 school year has begun. Each fall, the Facilities Planning Department develops preliminary school enrollment forecasts for the next school year, and then surveys principals regarding their projections. Accurate enrollment estimates are important for district and site planning. Next years district budget and your schools preliminary staffing allocation will be based on the fall 2001 enrollment forecasts currently being developed. This years preliminary forecasts include retention adjustments developed by the Institute for Learning, based on the Blueprints criteria. These forecasts are also used to determine the need for additional classrooms and facilities modifications for the next school year. You will be receiving an attachment to this circular by school mail, including a cover memo and a site-specific form entitled Elementary/Secondary Principals Fall Survey for 2001-02 Enrollment Forecasting and Facilities Allocations, which needs to be reviewed, completed, signed, and returned by December 8, 2000. This year, the district is paying particular attention to nonresident integration enrollment. Enrollment in the Voluntary Ethnic Enrollment Program (VEEP) has decreased districtwide over the past several years. The district must maintain a commitment to its voluntary integration program. When you receive your sites form via school mail, please review the VEEP and Magnet enrollment targets. Principals are responsible to conduct the recruitment necessary to meet those targets. Recruitment efforts should begin in early spring. Please call Pat Trandal at (619) 725-7153 if you need assistance in developing or funding your recruitment strategy, or to discuss the stated targets. Please also review the enrollment forecasts, other nonresident enrollment goals, and facilities recommendations, add your comments and information; then complete, sign, and return the form in accordance with its instructions (including a current map of your school). |
