Brief Explanation: |

|
The
state budget and the collective negotiations contract between the district
and the San Diego Education Association (SDEA) both provide for three
staff development days as part of the certificated unit member’s work
year. Per Article 8 of the
SDEA collective negotiations contract, all unit members, with the
exception of Child Development Center unit members, are required to
participate in staff development activities.
The following information is provided for planning purposes: 1.
August 31, November 9, 2001, and February 19, 2002, are designated
as mandatory staff development days. Staff development must be observed on
those days, or there is an option of moving the August 31 staff
development day to August 28, 29, or 30 in exchange for a teacher
preparation day. 2.
Per the collective bargaining agreement, Article 8.1.2.1.b,
contract unit members are eligible for absence with pay on staff
development days only if ill or injured (as
documented by a medical doctor’s note which must be attached to the
timesheet) or if on bereavement leave.
There will be no make-up day opportunities for unit members who
must be absent from the staff development days for legitimate reasons
other than those cited above. 3.
It is critical that the attached guidelines be followed in
conducting the mandatory staff development days to ensure accurate payment
from the state to the district, and accurate payment to eligible unit
members. Other than for discussion and planning purposes, no action is
necessary at this time. Each
certificated unit member assigned to an individual calendar will receive
notification from the Payroll Unit in April asking that an individual
calendar for the 2001-02 fiscal year be submitted.
The individual calendar must include the three staff development
days. Questions
pertaining to placement of the staff development days or other payroll
issues may be directed to Carol Hinton at (619) 725-7717, or by e-mail to
