Brief Explanation:

Under separate cover sites will receive their first nonresident Magnet wait list for the 2001-2002 school year. Beginning April 16, 2001, sites may also view their list online. To access your list, see the guide for Using Enrollment Options Reports also being sent under separate cover. The Magnet wait list has been randomized, ranked, and sorted by grade level in the following order. Students should be accepted in the order of the list:
  1. Secondary schools only: Magnet continuity students who applied by March 15, 2001. Siblings of concurrently enrolled students receive priority.
  2. Applications prior to September 3, 1999, have been randomized without high school cluster. Siblings of concurrently enrolled students receive priority.
  3. Applications received between October 1, 2000, and March 15, 2001, have been randomized and prioritized by high school cluster. Siblings of concurrently enrolled magnet students receive priority.
  4. Applications received after March 15, 2001, will be added to subsequent lists (for 2001-2002 school year) in date and time order.

Please note the following:

Grandfathered Applications (applies to priority #2 above)

Per Board of Education direction, Magnet applications submitted prior to September 3, 1999, are to be given a two-year priority consideration as the district phases into the new magnet process. These applications were randomized with no high school cluster applied. They have been placed ahead of applications submitted this year. Please be aware, this is the last year these applications will be grandfathered. Any student who submitted an application prior to September 3, 1999, and is not enrolled in the magnet this year will need to submit a new application to be considered for future year magnet enrollment.

Siblings

To receive sibling priority a Magnet application must be on file by March 15, 2001. Applications filed after March 15, 2001, do not receive a sibling priority. They will be added to subsequent lists in date and time order.

Verify Addresses

If a student is currently enrolled in the district, the information in SIS is assumed to be correct. Enrollment Options staff has attempted to contact every parent who applied with an address different from that in the client/server. However, it is still important that schools verify each student address and cluster before enrolling a student. If a student no longer resides at the address that placed them in a particular high school cluster, they should be moved to the correct high school cluster. This may mean a student who has moved into a geographic area that causes them to be placed into a high school cluster that is lower will not be enrolled until students in higher clusters have been offered enrollment.

Accessing the Magnet List Online

Beginning April 16, 2001, schools may access their magnet list online. See (under separate cover) the user guide for the new Enrollment Options Reports program. The user guide is also available at the district’s MIS/TSS Publications web site at:

http://www-isb.sandi.net/isb/techsupport

The Enrollment Options Office will periodically update your lists with additional names of students who have applied to attend your school. The online list will be updated approximately every 6 weeks. You will continue to receive hard a copy of your magnet list via school mail.

Documenting Dispositions

It is important that school sites document the contacts and attempts to contact each student on the hard copy of the list. Schools are required to document the final disposition of each student contacted on the pull-down menu on the magnet list online. The Enrollment Options Office monitors the disposition field in order to ensure parents and the Board of Education that schools are enrolling students in the order of the list.

Transportation

A transportation application must be completed for each new student enrolled in order for transportation to be scheduled for the student. A packet of VEEP and Magnet Transportation forms has been included with your wait list (under separate cover). Please return the forms to Transportation by June 2, 2000, to assure transportation for the first day of school in September.

If you have any questions, please call the Enrollment Options Office at (619) 725-5672.
