San Diego City Schools' Adelante Conferences (Adelante, Latinos and Adelante, Mujer Latina) will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2001, from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Adelante Conferences will be held at the University of San Diego campus but at two different locations. There will be joint registration and transportation services. Each conference will provide single gender approaches to academic success. The Adelante Conferences are co-sponsored by the Student Advocacy Program, Chicano Federation of San Diego County, Association of Mexican American Educators, Association of Latino Administrators, California Association for Bilingual Education, Círculo de Hombres, and MANA de San Diego - A National Latina Organization. Workshops on topics such as responsibilities of adulthood, community respect, strategies for academic and college success, careers, self-esteem, and leadership will be presented. Community members, school staff, and administrators are also urged to attend. Schools are urged to send Latino (male) students, Grades 7 - 12 and Latina (female) students, Grades 9 - 12. Special conference and registration information is attached. Please duplicate the registration form and register your students. Encourage your Latino students to take the information home as an invitation to their parents. Submit completed forms and registration fees to: Adelante Conferences Conference registration is limited. Transportation from selected sites will be provided at no cost to participating San Diego City Schools. Students will be directed to their conference on arrival at the campus. REMINDER: Return registration materials and fees as soon as possible according to the instructions on the forms. Due to time constraints, your cooperation to submit information in a timely manner is requested. The deadline for submitting completed school registration packages is Friday, April 20, 2001, 2 p.m. to Student Advocacy, Pacific Beach Center.
