Brief Explanation:

  The Student Advocacy Unit is presenting the seventh Las Niñas de Aztlán Special Event on Thursday, October 26, 2000. This event will be at the San Diego Community Concourse in a program that brings together Latina students and Latina women. The goal is to promote academic excellence among young Latinas. It is expected that 1,100 students from Grades 4 and 5, and 330 role models (Las Madrinas) will attend.

American Indian female students in 4th and 5th grades are invited to attend. A special program has been developed for them.

All principals, division and department heads, are urged to do the following:

• assume the leadership for the promotion of this conference

• assure that eligible students attend this event

Please note that this event has been approved for student attendance. Registration and information forms are attached. Transportation to and from the conference will be provided. Please return registration materials and fees as soon as possible according to the instructions on the forms.
