_____________

Choice booklets will arrive at school sites during the first two weeks of October for distribution to parents. State law requires that parents of all students (Grades K-11) be provided with the information about Choice. Choice booklets must be sent home as soon as possible upon delivery. Magnet booklets will be mailed to the homes of all district students K-11 during the month of October. The earlier than usual distribution of the magnet booklets will provide parents with information needed to meet the priority application timeline (October 2, 2000 to March 15, 2001). A supply of these booklets will also be sent to schools in October. It is also important that choice and magnet booklets be available at the school for new enrollees.

Schools who receive VEEP students should make efforts to communicate with parents residing in the VEEP pattern between October 2, 2000 – March 15, 2001 in order for parents/students to apply by the March 15 priority deadline. Applications received after March 15, 2001 will be added to the VEEP Student Enrollment List in date and time order and will not have sibling priority.

Choice, Magnet, and VEEP applications for school year 2001-2002 are available (see above links to attachments) for schools to print and distribute to parents beginning Monday, October 2, 2000. Please print both sides (back to back) of the application. Applications are not to be given to parents prior to October 2, 2000, and no application will be dated as received prior to October 2, 2000. To receive priority considerations (i.e. sibling) for Choice, Magnet, or VEEP applications must be received in the Enrollment Options Office between October 2, 2000 and March 15, 2001. Applications received after March 15 are added to Student Enrollment Lists by date and time and received with no priority considerations. Schools may request that the Enrollment Options Office (619) 725-5672 send them a printed supply of Choice, Magnet, and VEEP applications.

Out of district students must obtain an approved Interdistrict Attendance Permit and file a choice or magnet application to be added to the Student Enrollment List. Out of district students may not be enrolled until all district students on your Student Enrollment List have been offered enrollment.

It is also important to remember that a student who moves from your resident boundary and wishes to remain at your site must file a choice or magnet application. That student will then be added to your Student Enrollment List subject to timelines and enrollment criteria.

Completed applications returned to school sites should be dated, logged in at the site, and forwarded immediately to the Enrollment Options Office, Education Center, Annex 7B. Do not hold applications at the school site. If you have any questions or concerns, please call Cathy Nuñez at (619) 725-5672 or Sandra Robles at (619) 725-5654. Please note: The Enrollment Options Office has moved and will be located in Annex 7B beginning October 2, 2000.
