THE PROGRAM The Extended Day Reading Program is for students who are significantly below grade level in grades 3,6,7, and 8; this program will provide classes beyond the school day for three days per week, 90 minutes per class, for a total of 25 weeks. The time is divided into two 45-minute sessions with the first session including a mini-lesson with the whole group on a specific element of the Literacy Framework (i.e. shared reading, read aloud, modeled writing, word study) followed by writing with conferring and independent reading. The second session will organize students to work in small groups, individually or with partners to do guided reading, independent reading, word study activities, or writing. ELIGIBILITY Contracted permanent, probationary, leave replacement, temporary, restricted, Regional Occupational Program, and Visiting Teachers of the San Diego Unified School District who are deemed eligible by Human Resource Services Division (HRSD). Priority selection order will be permanent, probationary, temporary contract, visiting teacher, and then retirees. Interested staff members are encouraged to submit an application (bubble scan sheet) and have the sole responsibility to correctly complete the application to prevent computer scanning rejection. PAYMENT COMPENSATION Student instructional time is for 4.5 hours per week with a teacher prep period of 30 minutes once a week.
