The
Coordinated Compliance Review (CCR) found our district out of compliance
on several items in Title IX. These items are as follows:
1. Courses and other educational programs and activities are open to
all students regardless of gender. Students are guaranteed equal access.
(III G2)
2. Districtwide report of gender balance of classes and activities
will be reviewed and monitored each semester. Classes out of balance
without appropriate justification will be adjusted to improve gender
balance the following semester. (III G5)
3. Physical education classes are coinstructional. (III G7)
4. The selection of sports and levels of competition offered
effectively accommodate the interests and abilities of members of both
genders. (III G9)
5. The district's Student Nondiscrimination and Sexual Harassment
Policy will be prominently posted in all schools and offices, including
staff lounges and student government meeting rooms. (VI G12c and VI G15)
6. All students receive annual notification of the district's Student
Nondiscrimination and Sexual Harassment Policy. (VI G12c, VI G14, VI
G15, and VI G16)
7. The LEA has developed and published complaint procedures that
provide for prompt and equitable resolution of student complaints
alleging discrimination/sexual harassment. (VI G20)
8. The district's Student Nondiscrimination and Sexual Harassment
Policy will be a part of all orientation programs for new students at
the beginning of each semester and summer session. (VI G16)
9. The district will maintain all records of complaints of sexual
harassment brought forward by students. Site records will be sent to the
Title IX Coordinator. (VI G19)
In order to bring the district into compliance, each principal is
requested to do the following:
1. Review your extracurricular activities and club names to ensure
they are gender neutral (III G4). If not, change name to a gender
neutral name. Send this list to the Title IX Coordinator at Pacific
Beach Center by January 26, 2001.
2. All site Student Handbooks or new student orientation packets must
include the district's Student Nondiscrimination and Sexual Harassment
Policy (VI G18). The exact wording of the policy is essential. The
policy may be ordered as a printed stock item in seven languages
(English, Spanish, Tagalog, Cambodian, Vietnamese, Lao, and Hmong). If
the full page format is too large, the 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 version previously
sent may be used. To order your policies free of charge, please
