Foundation Family Donation Drive: Thank you to all our families who supported the SRHS Foundation’s 2007/2008 Family Donations Drive. $38,162.93 was raised this year with approximately 12% of families participating. The money will go towards updating technology at our school with the purchase of document cameras, LCD projectors and laptops for the classroom. Unfortunately, we did not reach our goal of $40,000, so we did not have a drawing for a Nintendo Wii Game Console. Also, thanks to those families who participated in their employer’s gift matching program. This year, we received corporate match donations from Qualcomm, Pfizer, Northrop Grumman, Union Banc Insurance Service, Merrill Marketing Communications, Sempra/SDG&E, Wachovia, Copley Foundation/ Union Tribune and Merrill Lynch. Thank you again and we look forward to your continued support! REMEMBER, ITS NEVER TOO LATE TO GIVE, USE THIS FORM FLYER

Principal's Message: (Monday, April 21, 2008 @ 7:30PM)

On Wednesday, April 23, 9th through 11th graders will begin the STAR testing. This assessment system includes the California Standards Tests or CST's. The tests measure whether or not a student has learned the standards established for each course. We ask that all students give their best effort on the assessments. These tests are important for several reasons. The results of the assessments are used by teachers to make decisions about what topics are taught and how they are taught. Also, counselors may use the test results to decide the placement of students in classes. And importantly, the scores achieved by our students also establish the academic reputation of our school. As colleges review applications, they consider the strength of the academic program of the applicant's high school. These CST scores are a major indicator as to the quality of our program. Our current students benefit from the fine reputation established by former Scripps Ranch students. Our current students are capable of enhancing that reputation. We ask that all students give their best effort; the CST scores do benefit each of them.

Our STAR testing calendar runs from Wednesday, April 23 through Tuesday, May 13. All students will follow their regular schedule during the testing schedule. STAR testing will take place in English, social studies, math and science classes. However, a student does not take a test every day. Nevertheless, the STAR process calls for us to modify the schedule slightly. CORE classes will not meet for the next three weeks to allow longer periods on Wednesday and Thursday to accommodate the longer tests. Another change is that this Friday, April 25, will be a 2-4-6 block day and next Friday, May 2, is a 1-3-5 block day.

Thank you for your consideration of this important matter.
