Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: How will I found out about practice and game times?

A: For the most part all game and practice locations and times are posted on the SRHS Men’s Water Polo Web site which can be found at http://sandi.net/srhs/aquatics/mens/index.htm. In the event that a change should occur an email will be sent to your email address. If it is a last minute change each team captain will notify his specific group and a general email will still be sent to your email address.

Q: Tournament times and locations?

A: Throughout the season, the men’s water polo team will partake in an array of local tournaments. Tentative schedules are posted, however sometimes we don’t get a confirmed schedule until a few days before the actual tournament. It is the goal of the program to keep you abreast of this information as it comes to us.

Q: How does my son get out of class if they need to leave for a game or tournament?

A: The coach will issue a pass on the morning of the specific day athletes will need to leave school early and will result in missing classroom time. Students are to check with their teacher prior to leaving about any assignments or notes they will miss and make arrangements with the teacher or peer to get all of the necessary information they may miss.

Q: How is 6th period P.E. handled since the water polo team has to travel to their practice location?

A: Athletes may leave school AFTER lunch on 6th period days. They will receive a sticker to put on their ID cards. Do not call in blue slips for them to leave earlier than the end of the lunch period. [Blue slips aren’t required are they? That is what the sticker is for.

Q: Who do I contact about getting my email on the SRHS Men’s Water Polo email tree?

A: You would need to contact the team’s communications chair and give them the email you want water polo information set to. In the event that you change your email address you need to contact this person so that you can continue to stay in the informational loop. If you wish to have your email removed you need to contact the communications chair too.

Q: Who do I contact about equipment?

A: Equipment orders will be placed at the parent meeting before the season starts. For additional equipment needs, please speak to the Equipment Chair about your athlete’s swim suit, pool bag, towel, parka, and other team equipment.

Q: What if I have a question about dues?

A: If a question should ever arise about paying dues to the program please contact the SRHS Men’s Water Polo Treasurer.

Q: Why are dues requested?

A: SDUSD partially funds this program. Dues are needed for our program to pay for much of the additional costs. We can only ask for dues as they are not mandatory; however without them our program would not function at its current level.

Q: Who is responsible for the team rosters?

A: Each team; Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Novice has a specific coach. In the beginning of each season the coaches create the teams based on the athlete’s knowledge of the game, ability, commitment, and desire. If you should have a question about this please do the following:

1. Have player talk to the coach.
2. Have parent talk to coach.
3. Parent, player and coach meet with Athletic Director and/or VP of Athletics.
4. Contact VP of Athletics directly.

Q: What if an issue arises between two or more athletes?

A: At the beginning of each season all athletes are required to turn in a medical form, Student/Athlete Agreement, and Ethics in Sports. By signing these forms they agree to abide by all terms. If an athlete fails to comply, then the SDUSD handles all appropriate consequences. If an athlete has issues please take the following steps:

1. Have player talk to the coach.
2. Have parent talk to coach.
3. Parent, player and coach meet with Athletic Director and/or VP of Athletics.
4. Contact VP of Athletics directly.
5. Contact Principal.

Q: What if an issue arises between my son and the coach?

A: While this is something we wish never to see, sometimes an issue arises between an athlete and their coach. If your son has concerns please do the following,

1. Have player talk to the coach.
2. Have parent talk to coach.
3. Parent, player and coach meet with Athletic Director and/or VP of Athletics.
4. Contact VP of Athletics directly.
5. Contact Principal.

Q: What if my son cannot attend a practice, a game, and or a tournament?

A: Coaches expect that all athletes take the responsibility of contacting their coach. It is their responsibility to call and talk to the coach or speak to James Tiffany at school as soon as they know about not being able to attend any practices, games, or tournaments.

Q: What if my athlete suffers an injury or illness and cannot attend practice, games, and or tournaments?

A: All athletes are part of a team and even if they cannot get into the pool because of an injury or illness they are still expected to be on deck with the team. Unless the parent and athlete have spoken to their son’s coach about not being able to be on deck, coaches will expect your son to be there. The lesson here is team spirit and comradely amongst players.

Q: What if it seems like our son is not getting a lot of game time?

A: Playing time will be determined by the coach. Coaches will not discuss playing time with parents. This must first be brought up by the player.

Q: What if I just have a general question about water polo?

A: Contact the SRHS Men’s Water Polo President.
