Welcome to Mrs. Forest-Rode Classroom

My Bio:  I have a B.A. in English from the University of Pittsburgh (specializing in English writing: fiction and poetry) M.A. in Educational Technology from San Diego State University Single subject teaching credential in English - SDSU GATE AND CLAD certified.

I'm married and have two boys ages 9 and 5. We also live in Scripps Ranch (since June 1994). My sons attend a local elementary school. We also belong to St. Gregory the Great church in Scripps Ranch.

I grew up in Pennsylvania and while I miss it sometimes I feel rooted in San Diego and don't ever want to leave.

I've been teaching for almost 22 years with San Diego Unified School District.  I have experience teaching grades K - 12 but I've mostly taught secondary students grades 7 - 12.  This is the end of my second year at Scripps Ranch High School and I plan to be here for a long time.

My favorite books currently are: Breathing Underwater by Alex Finn, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, The Sound and the Fury by William Faulkner, and The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. (there are more but this is good for now)

In my "spare time", the little there is of it, I like to be outdoors; especially the beach or the park. You might see me in Spring Canyon Park working out or cheering on my younger son's t-ball game or at Jerebek cheering on my older boys' team. I also help out at my sons' school and volunteer to do things for their Little League teams. If I had more time I would read more, cook more, dance more, and maybe finish one of the afghans I started before the boys were born.

My teaching philosophy: (TBA).

My dream classroom would have a reading nook with several bookcases of books, a table, 2 - 3 chairs, and an area rug in a bright color; and a writing center with a bank of 5 - 10 computers, a printer, and a table with chairs for conferring with students. It would also have a place for students to store back packs, coats, umbrellas, gym bags, when necessary. And several cupboards with locks to hold students' textbooks (the English books are so heavy). I know I'm dreaming but a sink to wash hands would be really great, too.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me ay time.  My email address is sforest-rode@sandi.net or by phone at 868-621-9020 ext. 3024.  I prefer that you use e-mail to contact me or leave your e-mail address on my voice mail and I will contact you. Thank you.
