Whittier's Going Green Fair took place on Earth Day, April 22, 2014. It was a culmination of all classrooms working on biology and earth science standards. The fair depicted a variety of themes starting with Ms. Buldoc's preschool class, "Love the Earth", to Ms. Mastin's high school science project of "Water Conservation and Sustainable Gardening." In between were units focusing on "The Lifecycle of the Butterfly", "Composting", "The Lorax", "Save the Rainforest", "Trash to Music", and "Bottle Cap Art and Vegetable Gardens". Two other high school units focused on "Repurposing Like the Robinsons" (The Swiss Family Robinson), and "Recycling Your Jeans". The culminating event was the 2nd Annual Trashin' Fashion Show hosted by Ms. Fabian, showcasing fashions made from recycled plastic bags and repurposed t-shirts and fabric. Whittier Wildcats are doing their part in making sure our environmental footprints are as small as possible. The staff is definitely teaching our students to be responsible, participating citizens of society.
