The Artissimo Rookie Visual Art Teacher of the Year Award is presented annually by the San Diego County Art Education Association (SDCAEA).The award is honors art educators between their 1st and 6th year of credentialed teaching who have shown excellence in practice, instruction, and advocacy of the arts.
Don Masse was nominated by Principal King and Don Nitzel. Then the nomination went to the Association board to be voted on. Don Masse states:
It is an honor to receive this award. I work hard to make the world of art engaging and challenging to our students, so they may learn how to apply it to communicate and express themselves in society. I want to offer our students unique art experiences that they would not be able to get in a traditional school setting. This award not only recognizes my work as an art educator, it also honors the hard work that Zamorano administration and staff have done to make sure our school is a place where the arts are recognized as vital elements in the education of our students, and where, in the face of dire budget circumstances for the past few years, the commitment has not waned.:
Mr. Masse’s classroom interaction must be seen to believe the beauty, craft, compassion, ande xemplary teaching of visual arts. His students are highly motivated and areable to creatively express their artistic abilities in extraordinary ways. Mr. Masseis highly a highly articulated, organized, and well-rounded visual artsteacher. He is an excellent role model for his students, parents, and colleagues to follow. His classes reflect the detailed planning that has obviously gone into the development of each lesson. Students at Zamorano are constantly amazed at his ability to create interesting and fascinating assignments.
Congratulations Don Masse and thank you for shinning with us!
