2012 Summer Adventures Program

June 25, 2011 – July 20, 2011 (19 Days)

 

 

San Diego Unified School District in partnership with Teaching, Helping, Inspiring, and Nurturing Kids (THINK) Together, a non-profit community based organization, will be working collaboratively to offer a summer program for middle level students at eligible schools.   The Summer Adventures Program will provide a comprehensive, high-quality full day summer program to include, but not limited to, academic assistance, homework support, enrichment and physical fitness activities at no cost to families.

 Dear Parents...

Eight Middle Level Host Schools: Bell, Lewis, Mann, Marston, Pacific Beach, Roosevelt, Taft and Wangenheim

Program Hours: 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

 Eligible Students: All current 5th, 6th, & 7th grade SDUSD students. Enrollment is on a first come/first served basis.  Priority will be given to students attending the middle school in the fall.

Program Target Enrollment Per School: 175 Students

Staff to Student Ratios: 1 to 20

District Staff per School:  School Principal or Vice Principal, Attendance Assistant, Custodian, On-call Nurse (8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.); Three Credentialed Teachers, 3 academic instructional hours and .5 preparation hours per day (8:45 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.). Principal identifies staff to be employed by THINK Together and identifies the curriculum for credentialed teachers.

Program Staff: 14 THINK Together Program Leaders (six staff 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. / eight staff 12:00 to 5:00 p.m.)

 

District Food Services:  Students will be served breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack (snack provided by THINK)

 Program Schedule:

Breakfast Schedule (8:30 - 9:00 a.m.)

 

 Morning Program (9:00 - 11:55 a.m.) has three, 55 minutes periods.  For each team of three, students will be divided into three groups (A, B, C) and rotate, spending 55 minutes with each member of the team.  Each team member will prepare for three groups of students.

Lunch Period and a variety of structured enrichment activities (12:00 - 1:00 p.m. / Lunch Service 12:00-12:30 p.m.)

Afternoon Schedule (1:00 - 4:30 p.m.) has two, 95 minute periods.  For each team of four, students will be divided into four groups (D, E, F, G) and rotate spending 95 minutes on Monday and Wednesday with each of 2 Program Leaders, and 95 minutes on Tuesday and Thursday with each of the other two other Program Leaders.
