UCSD Seeking Participants In Two No-Cost Weight Control Research Programs

Parents, researchers at UCSD and Rady Children’s Hospital are conducting two no-cost weight control research programs for overweight children age 8-12 years old and their families: iROC and FRESH.

The Pediatric Weight Control Program will focus on making several healthy changes:
- Eating less foods high in fat and added sugar
- Eating more fruits and vegetables
- Being physically active every day
- Spending less time watching TV or playing on the computer

iROC
Does your child continue to snack or eat after a full meal? Does your child say that he/she is always hungry? If yes, you and your child may qualify for the iROC Research study.

Needed:
  • Overweight children between 8-12 years (>85%ile BMI)
  • Multi-site 8-16 weekly individual sessions
  • Treatment aimed to help children who continue to eat when they are not hungry and don’t feel full.
  • Families will be compensated for time and effort

FRESH
Needed:
Are you worried about your child’s weight? Do you have an 8-12 year old child?

If you answered yes to the above questions, you may qualify to participate in a six month weight loss program as part of a UCSD research study. The FRESH (Family Responsibility, Education, Support & Health) study is focused on healthy eating and physical activity to promote weight loss and maintenance. The main goal of the program is to foster high quality research on the prevention and treatment of obesity. No drugs or supplements will be used and there is no cost to participants. All qualified participants will receive program materials and up $500.00 compensation for their time and effort after treatment. Read flyer pdf .
