Mann Middle School seventh and eighth grade theater students performed in Shakespeare's The Tempest, with Annilene Contreras taking home the Gold Medal for Festival Outstanding Actor, as the students participated in the annual Student Shakespeare Festival.
The annual Balboa Park event brings together kids from all over San Diego to celebrate William Shakespeare, or as theater aficionados call him, "The Bard." In addition to Contreras, other students participating from Mann included Brianna Walker, Diamond Benson, Chelsea Marcus, Nyadhour Deng, Jalon Young, Pilar Cruz, Nathan you, Dionnejanae Ridley and Sarah Abdollah.
The production of The Tempest was a variant that created a parallel to The Wizard of Oz, using live puppets.
