Student Netbooks

Have you allowed your student computers to receive the beginning of the year software updates? For detailed instructions, please click on this link.

Year 1 vs. Year 2

Many folks have been confused about their Yr. 1 or Yr. 2 status. You are considered a Year 1/Cohort 1 teacher if you were a part of the Year 1 rollout of i21. This means you taught in an i21 classroom during the 2009-2010 school year and were trained on the i21 equipment including the Promethean board and netbooks.

You are considered a Year 2/Cohort 2 teacher if you currently teach in a classroom that will be installed with i21 equipment during the current school year. You are also considered a Year 2/Cohort 2 teacher if you are new to an i21 classroom that was installed last year (ie. A Year 2 teacher in a Year 1 room). Your required trainings include the Vision/Tablet PC, Promethean 1, and Netbooks, all of which are full day classes. You should take Vision/Tablet PC as soon as possible. Year 2 teachers in a Year 2 room cannot take Promethean 1 until the Promethean board is installed. Netbook training will occur later in the year.

Lanschool

This software enables you to see and control all of your student computers from your Tablet PC. For instance, you can freeze all netbooks when you need student attention, you can send a website out to all student computers, and you can limit what applications and websites students can use. These are the initial steps you need to know about Lanschool:

·  Step 1: LanSchool will be installed automatically on the teacher's Tablet PC the first time they login upon returning to the district. (There is no installation required on the student netbooks as the software was already installed.)

·  Step 2:  Teacher sets classroom LanSchool channel.  Click here for Job Aid for instructions.

The detailed instructions for using Lanschool can be found on this link to the Lanschool Workshop. If learning on your own is not for you, you can attend our 2 hour workshop on Lanschool by registering at ero.

Workshops

Ed Tech is offering many workshops that involve your i21 classroom. Workshops are offered for different levels and at different pacing. Some examples of classes include your doc cam, Moodle, ActivExpression (Engage), wiki, and blogging. Go to ero and sign up for classes today!

Your Projector

Teachers are already reporting “fading” bulbs on their Promethean projectors. Save the life of your bulb and be sure to shut it off when you will not be using it for 15 minutes or more.
