Marne Foster - Board PresidentMarne Foster

Marne Foster was born and raised in San Diego, and is a passionate member of the community. She has been a community college teacher for 14 years, and provides leadership to deans and more than 700 faculty members as the Student Learning Outcomes/Program Review Coordinator and Assistant Accreditation Coordinator for San Diego Continuing Education.

Ms. Foster was the recipient of San Diego Continuing Education 2010 President’s Leadership Award, and the recipient of the 2009 Promising Outcomes Work and Exemplary Research Award (POWER) given by the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges for her leadership in Student Learning Outcomes. Ms. Foster served on the Non Credit Standing Committee for California Community Colleges (2009-11), and is serving her third term on the Career and Technical Education Committee for the California Federation of Teachers (2009-12).

Ms. Foster was recently elected to the San Diego Unified School District Board for Sub-District E, and has been appointed to the Legislative Committee for the California School Board Association. She is also a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., EXO Chapter.

A graduate of the esteemed Howard University School of Business and American University School of Communications, Ms. Foster has also been a marketing and communications practitioner for more than 18 years. Her credits include development of outreach and marketing campaigns for Citibank, United Way of America, the Discovery Channel and the San Diego County Water Authority’s Small Contractor Outreach Program – The Training Source. Ms. Foster has a bachelor’s degree in Marketing and International Business, and a Master’s of Public Communications. She is also a certified Teacher of English to Students of Other Languages (TESOL) and has lived in Mexico and Sweden.

While Ms. Foster wears many hats, her favorite and most challenging job is being a mother to four gifted children, with two in college on full scholarships and two still in San Diego Unified Schools. Ms. Foster and family are members of Christian Fellowship Congregational Church.
