Standards, Assessment, and Accountability Division

The Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA) is a series of leveled books and recording sheets designed to allow teachers to determine students' reading accuracy, fluency, and comprehension levels. DRA data are collected at the end of each grading period (cycle) to determine student progress. Students are determined to be near, at, or above grade level, below grade level, or significantly below grade level based on their performance on the assessment relative to their grade level status.

The DRA summaries for each school indicate how students performed on the DRA. They display the number and percentage of students at each achievement level for each grade of grades K-3 in cycles 1 and 2 and grades K-4 in cycle 3. The first page displays results for all tested students on the English version of the DRA and for Spanish-speaking English learners in biliteracy classes on the Spanish version (Evaluación del desarrollo de la lectura). The second page breaks out results on the DRA for fluent English--proficient students and for English learners.
