Purpose:
The Future Thurgood Middle School will enroll all students in grades
6-8 in Scripps Ranch. The current Thurgood Marshall
Middle School will revert to an elementary school to accommodate the
students
from Ellen Browning Scripps Elementary
School,
which was built as a temporary school.

New school size: The new school
will accommodate 1,600 students in grades 6-8 on 36.5 acres.

Acquisition
and relocation: The new school required the acquisition of a
portion
of a non-residential parcel of land from a local university. |

Name of new
school: The school will retain the name of the current Thurgood
Marshall Middle School, which is named for a well-known figure in civil
rights history and the first African-American Supreme Court Justice.
