school opened on January 17, 2006, with students and staff from
Brooklyn Elementary. By 2008, the school will also serve students from
Kimbrough Elementary.

Golden Hill Elementary will ease overcrowding at Brooklyn
Elementary
and Kimbrough Elementary.

The new school can accommodate 700 students in grades K-5 on 6.55 acres.

Acquisition
and relocation: The new school required
the acquisition of 27
parcels, and the relocation of 34 households consisting of 93
residents. Of the
34 households, 3 used their relocation funds to become first-time
homeowners. |

Name of
new school: The
name “Golden Hill” was selected by two Brooklyn Elementary
third-graders
in honor of the surrounding neighborhood. |

Campus
features: 32
classrooms, 59,800 square feet of facilities, 6.55 acres, 56 parking
spaces,
50+ trees, more than 400 shrubs, multipurpose room, library/media
center, lunch
shelter, elevator and accessibility features, kitchen, faculty lounge,
workroom, administrative center, and energy-efficient design features. A
grass playfield will also be built.
