Status: Construction began in December 2005.
Location: 4080 52nd Street, San Diego, CA 92105. City Heights. The site is bound by property south of Orange Avenue on the north, Polk Avenue on the south, 52nd Street on the east, and Altadena Street on the west, and also includes the properties bound by Polk Avenue on the north, 52nd Street on the east, Ottilie Place on the south, and 51st Street on the west (a.k.a. Alternative Site A Expanded). 
Purpose: Mary Lanyon Fay Elementary will ease overcrowding at Jackson Elementary and Marshall Elementary. It will also eliminate a student overflow annex at Mann Middle School.
New school size: The new school will accommodate 700 students in grades K-5 on 6.3 acres.
Acquisition and relocation: The new school required the acquisition of 42 parcels, and the relocation of 169 households consisting of 608 residents. Of the 169 households, 8 used their relocation funds to become first-time homeowners.
Name of new school: The school is named for a well-known civic leader and one of the longest serving Board of Education members. Fay was appointed in 1937, served as president and vice president for 18 years, and advocated for the hiring of the first African-American teachers.
Campus features: 32 classrooms, 61,000 square feet of facilities, 6.3 acres, 58 parking spaces, 65 trees, numerous shrubs, joint-use field for soccer and baseball, multipurpose room, library/media center, lunch shelter, elevator and accessibility features, kitchen, faculty lounge, workroom,  administrative center, and energy-efficient design features.
