Overview
As a community service to our parents and families, San Diego Unified maintains a partial listing of free and low-cost summer resources. The list includes youth programs, safety tips, health and wellness resources, and employment opportunities. These resources are independent, community-based and are not run by the district.
Summer Youth Camps and Programs:
Boys and Girls Club of Greater San Diego (Grades 1-6):
Summer Camp programs at 12 locations. Fees cover a free lunch, free snack & a free weekly field trip. Financial assistance available.
Camp Fire USA Summer Programs
(Pre-K to 9th Grade):
Scholarships available based on financial need.
Camp Scripps: English

(Ages 9-12):
Educational camp focused on health careers.
City of San Diego Recreation Centers (Starting at age 3 years):
Recreation centers throughout the city offer a variety of recreation activities, including summer youth programs.
Girl Scouts (For girls ages 5 to 17 years):
Teen leadership positions, adult volunteer opportunities, and financial assistance available.
Salvation Army Day Camp (Ages 4-13 years):
A limited number of partially funded scholarships are available
YMCA of San Diego County (Ages 5-12 years): Youth programs and camps available at more than 15 locations around San Diego County. Financial assistance available.
Free Kid’s Day
The San Diego Unified Police Department and STAR/PAL are organizing a Free Kid’s Day
on Wednesday, August 27, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Colina Park. Activities include a soccer clinic, golf, swimming and a barbeque lunch. The event is free to the first 100 kids, ages 9-13 years, who turn in a waiver

Free Summer Lunches for Kids (Ages 2-18 years)
Free summer lunches at select schools and City of San Diego Park & Recreation Centers. No enrollment, paperwork, or income qualifications. Flyers: English

Kids to Camp Program:
Provides camperships so children from low income families can attend a Day Camp, or Resident Camp
Pro Kids Golf (Ages 7 to 17 years):
Provide a safe and fun environment where underserved kids can learn the game of golf and develop values and life skills that will aid them in their future endeavors.
San Diego Youth and Community Services:
Two National Football League (NFL) Youth Education Town Centers are high-tech educational and recreational centers located in City Heights and Golden Hills. All of the services are free of charge and available to anyone between the ages of 9 and 17. Those who are over 18-years old can participate as a volunteer mentor.
Star/PAL (Ages 9 to 14 years):
Provides free youth programs and positive interaction with committed volunteers that include law enforcement officers and firefighters.

Provides health services to medically underserved children and youth.
