Special Needs Programs & Services

As required by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act-

, the San Diego Unified School District is responsible for identifying, locating and assessing children with disabilities. This includes students enrolled in public, private and parochial schools.

Services
Special education and related services are provided based on the individual needs of the student and the recommendation of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) Team. These services may include general education, instructional services (such as language, speech and adapted physical education), special day class programs, or alternative school settings.

Eligibility
Eligible disabilities include, but are not limited to:

Hearing and/or vision impairment
Physical handicap
Mental retardation
Orthopedic impairment
Emotional disturbance
Learning disability
Speech and language impairment
Traumatic brain injury
