Free & Reduced Price Meal Programs Lunch regularly costs $1.50 in elementary schools and $2.00 in secondary schools, but is free to qualifying students through the National School Lunch Program (NSLP)- A parent or guardian must complete a Free or Reduced-price Meal Program application, which are provided to students at the beginning of the year. Meals must be purchased until the application is approved, which takes approximately 10 working days. Parents or guardians will be notified of eligibility by the district's Food Services Department or the school site office after the application is processed. Eligibility The district follows the California Income Eligibility Scale for Free or Reduced Price Meals to determine qualified applicants. Children whose families receive food stamps, California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs), Kinship Guardianship Assistance Payments (KinGAP) or Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR) are automatically eligible for free meals regardless of the income of the household by completing the Free and Reduced Price Meal application sent home with their child on the first day of school. Families with foster children might also be eligible and should contact the child's school or Food Services at 858-627-7328 for more information. Eligibility will be determined by Food Service central office or school administrators at each school site and may be verified at any time during the school year by the district's Food Services Department.
