Pershing
Middle School's
Supply Day
2008 |
In
light of the cutbacks in state funding, Pershing Middle School does not
have the funds for all of the supplies that are needed in our kid's
classes. At our recent Parent Booster/Foundation meeting, we
discussed ways to help Pershing get these supplies. From this meeting,
the idea of a campus wide Supply Day was suggested.
Pershing
has designated Wednesday, October 8, 2008 as Supply Day
for parents, grandparents and others involved in the lives of our
Pershing students to donate supplies that
the teachers and staff need to benefit our kids. Many of the
teachers have already turned in their wish lists
of items needed in their classrooms. Items are being added daily to this
list, so please check back often.
There
are a handful of more expensive items that have been requested, but the
items that have been requested most frequently are relatively
inexpensive such as Kleenex, copy paper, tape, Clorox Wipes, etc.
Please refer to the Wish List page on the
website for a complete listing. If you choose to donate something
for a specific teacher, please label it accordingly. We thank Mrs.
Langstraat and Mr. Martin for their time and energy in coordinating this
event.

Yearbook
News from Ms. Johns and Ms. Hemric: The
Yearbook Club is meeting this week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday
at 2:15 - 3:15 in room B36. We're ready to choose a theme, take
lots of pictures, and put together a great yearbook for all of the
students to enjoy and sign at the end of the year. As always, the
yearbook is put together entirely by students, but this year we're doing
it after school. We need photographers, writers, and all-around
creative people. 6th, 7th, and 8th graders are welcome.

Counseling
Department
Update |

|
Ms.
Janis Weintraub, 6th Grade Counselor - As
your child's 6th grade counselor, I have been very busy getting our 6th
graders settled into middle school. Changing from elementary
school to middle school can be stressful but I am happy to see them
quickly becoming a part of our Pershing community.
Beginning in October, I will be presenting lessons to your children
centered around the book titled The 7 Habits of Highly Successful
Teens.
The lessons will be focusing on habits students need to be successful academically
and socially. These lessons will begin the end of October and continue
through April.
As always, if you have questions or concerns, please feel free to give
me a call or e-mail
me.
Mrs. Adria Brown, 7th Grade
Counselor - As the 7th grade
counselor, I oversee most issues arising in conjunction with our 7th
grade students. I will be collaborating with our 7th grade teams,
Mr. Martin, and Ms. Sullivan as well to ensure all of our 7th graders
are well cared for and prepared for academic success. I will also
be working with our 7th graders to help prepare them for their
transition to 8th grade and eventually to high school.
Ms. Marci Blodgett, 8th
Grade/Head Counselor - News
for 8th graders: Are you an 8th grader? Are you asking
yourself questions like: What am I good at? What do I want to
be when I am older? What do I like about school? What high school
do I want to go to and what classes do I want to take?
I will be working with the 8th graders on career planning using the
district's new MY DREAM resources. Students will explore what type
of courses to take in high school that match their interests and at the
same time meet graduation requirements. It is never too early to
start planning for high school, career, or college.
