Urgent
Message
From the Nurse

|
“I
currently only have a handful of Epi-pens and inhalers that I've
been cleared to administer in case of an emergency. If your
child has a severe allergy or may need an inhaler, it is important
that you provide the school with an Epi-pen or inhaler WITH a
current doctor's order. Unless your doctor writes on the order
"Student may carry own medication," these remain locked up
and are accessible to staff members who have been trained on their
administration. We must have a doctor's order for the
medication in order to administer it.” To read more, http://www.sandi.net/pershing/nurse.htm

Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network and meet other families facing the same

Welcome
back to all our 6th grade campers!
October 1-5 is the last 6th grade camp session for Pershing students this
year. Thank
you to all our parents who volunteered for “luggage watch” duty.
A
special request from the 7th Grade science teachers (Ms. Buchanan, Mr.
Mendibles, and Mrs. Tayco)
- The seventh grade
science teachers are in need of donations to assist the technical
component of their curriculum. They
need:
-
Microphones
that are used for Podcasting. Each microphone is about $15 at Fry's or
Best Buy. Please note that our teachers know this is a huge request
but they plan to do a large amount of podcasting this year and without
the microphones, the sound quality is awful. Any microphone donations
will be greatly appreciated (or gift cards for this specific reason
and the teachers will then shop for this item).
-
Blank
CD's (CD-R only)
-
Blank
DVD's (DVD-R only)
-
Mini
DVD Tapes for Video Cameras
Thank
you for your support!

a complete list of teacher/classroom donation requests,
please go to http://www.sandi.net/pershing/donations.htm.
Congratulations
to our students who auditioned for this year’s winter musical
production, Peter Pan
by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc. The cast list was posted
on October 1st and the cast is currently in rehearsals.

More
from our
Theatre Department…

Pershing
Middle School’s First Annual Back to School Theatre Party was a
grand success. On September 30, 2007, faculty, students,
and their families enjoyed an entertaining performance of the
musical, Camelot, at the San Diego Civic Theatre. Thank you to all
who supported this first time event! |
From
Ms. Spicer
- The library orientation for sixth graders has concluded and students
have information on the titles for this year's California Young Reader
Medal books that will be part of many students' required reading logs.
With dozens of students reading the same books, there may be a wait for a
particular title. If you are taking a trip to the public library, you
might want to borrow a title so your student can complete this assignment
well before the March 1, 2008 deadline. Students must read all three books
in one category. All our students are encouraged to participate in
this program. For a listing of the books, please go to - http://www.sandi.net/pershing/library.htm.
Band
Parents - Join the Pershing Band's E-Mail List! To receive news about
upcoming events, please send an email to Pershingband@aol.com.
Evening
with the Principal
- Thank you to Mrs. Sullivan for hosting this year’s Evening with
the Principal on September 18, 2007. This informative event was a great
way for parents to learn more about Pershing’s curriculum and community.
ParentConnection
- Parents, if you need a reminder of your ParentConnect/Zangle ID or
password, please contact Stephanie Kamp at skamp@sandi.net.
Parent

| September
was a busy month for Pershing’s parent volunteers.
The month started off with a very successful First Day of School

coordinating this terrific event and to Mrs. Lotze for her support
and guidance. Also, our Foundation and Boosters each had their first
meetings of the school year and Mrs. Esten unveiled our newest
program, Parents At Lunch (PALS) at the PALS orientation on
September 24th. Thank you to all who attended these meetings. We are
very excited about 2007-2008!
