"The Pershing Community Rocks! As unbelievable as it sounds, the students and staff of Pershing Middle School donated over $2,100.00 to Pasta for Pennies. Yes, you heard that correctly, all of the pennies, nickels, dimes, etc. that were donated by you over the past three weeks added up to over $2,100.00. Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! The honor of being the class that donated the most goes to Mrs. Rondestvedt's Block 1 class. They donated over $400.00. Mrs. Marcarelli's Block 1 class collected the second highest with over $200.00. This was followed by Ms. Madonia's, Ms. Millward's, and Ms. Carroll's Block 1 classes. Congratulations to all of you on a fantastic job." - ASB

Pasta for Pennies Program Overview

Each year, The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society sponsors a terrific fundraising program for students called Pasta for Pennies. For three weeks, students bring in any extra pennies, nickels, quarters, etc. to their first block teacher. This money is then donated to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Every donated penny is needed in the fight against leukemia and lymphoma. In 2007, by just sharing their extra coins from home, students from 135 San Diego County schools raised over $278,000 for the Pasta for Pennies program (including more than $2,000 from Pershing Middle School)!!!!!! The money earned goes to support blood cancer research and patient services. 

This program also awards some fun prizes to the participating schools. A hospitaliano pasta party from the Olive Garden Italian Restaurant is awarded to each school’s top donating class. Additionally, educational gift certificates are given to those schools that donate more than $500. 

Parents, family, and friends can contribute to this worthy cause too. Donations are greatly appreciated! Please help support our students in this important program. They are learning that they can make a huge difference in the battle against a horrible disease.
