Pasta
for Pennies Program Overview
Each
year, The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society sponsors a terrific
fundraising program for students called Pasta for Pennies. For
three weeks, students bring in any extra pennies, nickels, quarters, etc.
to their first block teacher. This money is then donated to The
Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Every donated penny is needed in the
fight against leukemia and lymphoma. In 2007, by just sharing their extra
coins from home, students from 135 San Diego County schools raised over
$278,000 for the Pasta for Pennies
program (including more than $2,000 from Pershing
Middle School)!!!!!! The money earned goes to support blood cancer research and
patient services.
This
program also awards some fun prizes to the participating schools. A
hospitaliano pasta party from the Olive Garden Italian Restaurant is
awarded to each school’s top donating class. Additionally, educational
gift certificates are given to those schools that donate more than $500.
Parents,
family, and friends can contribute to this worthy cause too. Donations are
greatly appreciated! Please help support our students in this important
program. They are learning that they can make a huge difference in the
battle against a horrible disease.
