Patrick
Henry Secondary Band
Cluster Concert
The
Pershing Middle School Band performed to a "standing room
only" crowd during their participation in the Patrick Henry
Secondary Band Cluster Concert on Friday, April 4, 2008. The
Lewis Middle School Band and the Patrick Henry Symphonic Winds
Band also performed. The evening began with the 8th
graders performing "Ashland Park" followed by
"Suspended Animation". The 7th graders performed
"Adventure on Snake River" and "March Slav".
The concert concluded with all three schools performing
together for the first time ever. After the concert, the
students enjoyed an ice cream social and mingled with the
Patrick Henry Band students. Many of the Pershing students
will be joining the Patrick Henry Band next year and you could
see the excitement on their faces as they listened to the music
and when they chatted with the high school students afterward.
Mr. Anderson continues to encourage and mentor these
students and they improve with every performance. He has
been such a gift to the Pershing Music Program.*

The SDUSD Lewis Band Festival
March 7 & 8, 2008:
The Band Festival was
awesome!!! Each grade performs before a panel of judges
and then afterward one of the judges does a clinic with the
group. The 7th and 8th grade bands both received an
"excellent" rating. The judge who worked with
the 8th graders said, "I've never seen a more improved band
in the 16 years I've been judging the San Diego City Schools
Middle School Music Festival.” The judge who worked with
the 7th graders shared with us, "You have a very big sound
unlike most other 7th grade bands." These were
terrific compliments. The 6th graders also performed
wonderfully, especially being their first time ever in a
competition.* |
| Congratulations to the
Pershing students who were named to the San Diego Unified School
District's Middle School Honor Band and Orchestra!! |

The
Pershing Band received unanimous Excellent ratings from
all three judges at the Lewis Middle School Band Festival.
The students were complimented by the judges on their concert

the performance.
Two of our band members both received an Excellent Rating for
their Bass Clarinet and Flute Duet performance at the Solo and
Ensemble Festival in February.
In addition to the Festival Honors, five 8th grade students were
selected to participate in the San Diego Unified School District
Honor Band. |
Two other students
auditioned and were selected for the Elementary/Middle School
Orchestra Festival held at PLNU in Brown Chapel.
Special congratulations to one of our students who was chosen to
be "Concert Mistress" for the ensemble. She was first
