Supporting our School Community
Pershing
offers many ways for parents, guardians, grandparents, and
community
members to volunteer. Here are a few of our upcoming volunteer
opportunities…
|
Parents
At Lunch (PALS) – PALS
is Pershing’s great new lunch program! PALS volunteers are needed for extra
adult supervision each day during lunch. We will have a brief PALS orientation on September 26th at 6:00 PM
in the school library. Click here for details.
Pershing Boosters’
Meeting on September 26, 2007 at 6:30 p.m. in the library - Please
join other parent volunteers at our first meeting of the school year! You will
learn about ways to be involved at Pershing and hear about some of our
upcoming events. All are invited! http://www.sandi.net/pershing/boosters.htm
The Foundation’s first
meeting was on September 17, 2007. If you were unable to attend this meeting
and are interested in joining the Foundation, please contact us at pershingvolunteers@yahoo.com.

Volunteers ROCK! A huge
thank you to all our volunteers who helped ease the Back-to-School
transition for our students, faculty, and staff by assisting with Textbook
Distribution, 6th Grade Orientation, First Day of School Parent Coffee, PE
Sales, Picture Day, and in many, many more areas. Your help is an invaluable
resource to our school community.
6th Grade Camp season is here!
On September 12th, Vice Principal Scott Hillier presented two 6th Grade
Camp Orientations, one for students followed by another for their parents. He
gave an overview of this wonderful program and also answered questions. This
year, all three 6th grade teams will be attending camp in consecutive weeks
beginning on September 17, 2007. For specific dates and general information,
please go to:
http://www.sandi.net/pershing/camp.htm
Due to
the 6th grade camp schedules, Pershing’s Open House/Dinner and Shadow Your Student Day
will be held in October rather than in September.

|
A
festive fall tradition! This year’s Open House
is on October
11, 2007 - Dinner is from 5-5:50 p.m. in the cafeteria. At 5:30 p.m., you may
review the 6th and 8th grade health education curriculum in the library.

Shadow
Your Student Day – Join
us on October 12, 2007 for this popular school wide event. Shadow
Your Student Day gives parents the opportunity to experience their
child’s school day by following their child through his or her class
schedule. Please note that October 12th is also a minimum day. School will be
dismissed at 11:30 a.m.

What
a way to start the school year!
Friday, September 7th was a celebratory day at Pershing. The 6th, 7th, and 8th
grades all showed their school pride at our annual Back-to-School Spirit
Assemblies. Each grade had their own assembly, which included many fun moments
as well as poignant talks led by their teachers. A few of the highlights were an iMovie showing the community spirit of our 8th graders, 7th grade
pictures of Mr. Hogue, Ms. Buchanan, and all the 7th grade teachers, and a
rocking beach party skit performed by the 6th grade team.
Happenings
in 6th Grade English -
Our sixth grade English classes are working on Analysis of Narrative
