Pershing and Patrick Henry High School During the month of February, Pershing’s head counselor,
Marci Blodgett, will be meeting with all 8th grade students in their Humanities classes. Together,
they will complete a “four-year plan” and discuss the curriculum and
graduation requirements for high school. Later in the semester, Mrs. Blodgett
will present a high school orientation meeting for parents. This meeting,
which is separate from the parent orientation at Patrick Henry, will enable
parents to review their children’s four-year plan for high school.
Reservation forms for this orientation will be sent home with our students. Patrick

As our amazing 6th graders
begin their second semester of middle school, we’d like to give you a
glimpse into one of their courses of study (and also to prepare parents for an
upcoming assignment!). Currently,
all 6th
grade
English classes are working on Persuasive Units of Inquiry. Next week, the
focus will change from reading persuasive texts to writing persuasively. A
culminating writing piece will be due in late February or early March. Thank
you to Mrs. Rondestvedt for providing us with this information! The 7th & 8th Grade Winter Semi-Formal
Dance was a huge success! Congratulations to our Prom’s royal court – the 8th
grade King and Queen and the 7th grade Prince and Princess. It was a
spectacular night for the Pershing family. The chaperones were very, very
impressed with all the students who attended. http://www.sandi.net/pershing/semi_formal.htm A request to our students from Mrs. Sullivan
- Our school grounds and classrooms are all looking very clean and tidy. Help
us continue to keep our campus running smoothly by remembering to
leave all chewing gum at home. Please don't bring it to school. Thank you!
The 2007 Pershing Spelling Bee
was the most exciting one ever! Congratulations
to all our participants, especially the 6th,
7th, & 8th grade
first and second place winners. The 8th grade winner will now
compete at the San Diego Countywide Spelling Bee in March. Thank you to Mr.
Carroll and Ms. Lehrer for your dedication to this program. http://www.sandi.net/pershing/bee.htm
5th Grade Orientation is on
February 28 – Welcome to all our future
Pershing students and their parents! We have an
informative evening planned for you. See why we are all so proud of our
programs, curriculum, faculty, and staff. http://www.sandi.net/pershing/orientation.htm
The Drama Club is currently holding
auditions for the Spring Musical Extravaganza. Whether it be singing,
dancing, acting, or tech crew, the Drama Club has something for everyone. It
is a great way to meet new friends, be creative, learn about the theatre, gain
confidence in public speaking and have a ton of fun. http://www.sandi.net/pershing/Springplay.htm
The Annual Principal’s Honor Roll
Luncheon will be held on February 21, 2007. This program is for those students who earned straight A’s
for the first semester. Each participating student may invite one adult to the
luncheon. Congratulations! http://www.sandi.net/pershing/honorlunch1st.htm

Pasta
|
Our students are currently participating in a terrific
fundraising project called Pasta for Pennies, which benefits The
Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. By bringing in spare change, students can make a difference in
the fight against leukemia and lymphoma. Every penny counts.
Last year, Pershing
was among the 120 San Diego schools that donated more than $175,000!! The classroom that gives the most money will win a pasta
party from the Olive Garden Italian Restaurant. Parents, family members,
neighbors, and friends can support this program too. For more
information, please go to – http://www.sandi.net/pershing/pasta.htm
