House 2007

Special Website Spotlight
Open
House is almost here! Please come to the Open House on
January 25, 2007 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Tour the 6th grade
classrooms and see all 600 Science Fair exhibits. This is a night
to celebrate your children’s achievements and to honor Pershing’s
scientific community. Also, Mrs. Miller and Pershing’s Drama Students
will be showcasing their theatrical talents in the annual Dramathon (continuous
dramatic performances) in room 1001 from 6:30 to 7:30.
At 6:00 p.m., in room B34, there will be an ELAC
meeting. This is a wonderful opportunity to experience the Pershing

You
are invited to the next Parent Voices for Education San Diego (PVSD) Parent
Forum, Wednesday February 7, 2007 from 6:30 – 8:30 PM at the Harold J. Ballard
Parent Center. Dr. Carl Cohn, Superintendent of San Diego
Unified School District, will discuss the restructuring of the District
into 5 key Areas and how this new structure is designed to support student
success. The District’s Area Superintendents, Ms. Carol Barry,
Dr. Chelsea Smith, Dr. Rich Cansdale, Mr. Vince Matthews (Pershing’s Area
Superintendent) and Dr. Delfino Alemán, and the Assistant High School
Superintendent, Ms. Nellie Meyer, will also join us to participate
in a panel discussion during which they will address parents’ questions about
the most pressing issues we face in educating our children. If you
plan to attend, please RSVP as soon as possible. Space is limited.

Annual 8th Grade Science Exhibitions
Congratulations
to our entire 8th grade class! All 8th
graders presented their Science Fair
projects in front of a panel of judges on January 17th. This panel
included students, educators, parents, and district
and community leaders. What a wonderful way to complete your final
Science Fair season at Pershing. You've
all done an incredible job!

of the Library Essay Contest – 8th Graders - The
deadline is February 15th. You may either submit an essay
individually or via your January Prompt in your Humanities class. For more

Pershing’s
Spelling Bee Season is here.
The finals for this campus event will be held on February 2nd. The
participants are those students who have won their respective classroom
spelling bees. The 7th or 8th grade winner of the Pershing
Spelling Bee will advance to the San Diego Countywide Spelling
