Spirit Week Fun is Almost Here!!!!!!

Mr. Myrick and the ASB have planned a great 2007 Spirit Week for Pershing Middle School!  There will be a different theme and lunchtime activity everyday. This is definitely going to be one of the highlights of the school year!  8th Grade News 

 

June will be an amazing time for Pershing’s 8th graders. Many of them will start the month off by spending a week on the East Coast. They will visit Philadelphia, Washington, DC, and New York City. Mr. Budzynski, Mr. Mendibles and the entire 8th grade East Coast Committee have dedicated an enormous amount of their time and energy to make this an awesome and memorable experience for our eighth graders. 

East Coast Trip Update - Important Meetings for Parents and Students! There will be a mandatory parent meeting for the East Coast trip on May 24, 2007 at 6:30pm in the school auditorium. 8th grade events in June include the Soak City Trip, Awards Night, Best of the Best, 8th Grade Game Day, Yearbook Signing,  and Promotion Day. Thank you to Marci Blodgett, Pershing’s head counselor, who hosted several informative meetings for 8th grade parents the first week of May. She explained in detail everything from Patrick Henry’s graduation requirements to what is needed to apply to the Cal State University and University of California systems.

 

2007-2008 Patrick Henry High School Color Guard Informational Meeting and Auditions - No Experience is Necessary! The PHHS Color Guard will be hosting a mandatory informational meeting for all new parents and students on Thursday, May 17 at 7:00 p.m. This meeting will be held at Patrick Henry High in Room 602 (Music Room). The actual audition dates are scheduled for May 22-24 and 29-31, 2007 
from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m.

Patrick Henry Girls’ Tennis Team - The Spring Clinic and Informational Meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 30th from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. Meet at the Henry courts with your racket. Information for fall tryouts will be distributed at this meeting/clinic.

 

Congratulations to all our students who tried out for the Patrick Henry High Junior Varsity Cheer Squad! Several Pershing students were chosen for the JV team and will be cheering for the Patriots during the 2007-2008 school year.

Our Teachers Are AWESOME!

Teacher Appreciation Day - The Pershing campus had a terrific reason to celebrate on May 16, 2007. That was the day we celebrated the wonderful, outstanding, and dynamic teachers at Pershing Middle School. Thank you for inspiring our children daily with your knowledge, enthusiasm, and creativity. We appreciate you!

A huge congratulations to one of our 6th grade students. Not only did he win the Union-Tribune's Race for Literacy Kids Magic Mile but he was also featured in a Union-Tribune article covering the event. WOW!

Pershing’s Annual Incoming 6th Grade Mixer/Pizza Party on May 4th was a great success. The festive evening included lots of pizza, socializing, and great music provided by the 6th Grade Band and the Jazz Band.  Thank you to all the teachers, staff, and volunteers who worked together to make this evening such an awesome experience. A special thank you to all our incoming 6th grade families for coming to this event. We are very excited about the 2007-2008 school year!

May 4-5, 2007 were very busy days for Mr. Mark Anderson and the Pershing Middle School Band. On May 4th, the 6th Grade A and B Bands and the Jazz Band entertained the crowd at Pershing’s Annual May Mixer. The next day they joined the 7th and 8th grade bands and performed at the Allied Gardens SpringFest in front of a very enthusiastic crowd of fans.

Did you know that two of Pershing Middle School’s alumni include a Tony Award winning star of stage and a multiple Academy Award nominee and Golden Globe winner? In fact, in recent interviews, they each discuss their memories of Pershing’s Drama program. Facts!

Speaking of our fantastic drama program, we’re just a few weeks away from the Pershing premiere of Disney’s High School Musical. Performances are scheduled for May 30 through June 1, 2007 in the school auditorium. For specific show times - http://www.sandi.net/pershing/Springplay.htm

Good luck to our eight students who will be competing at the 56th Annual California State Science Fair, which will be held in Los Angeles on May 21-22, 2007. We will all be cheering for you!

District Student Achievement Recognition Ceremony – 34 Pershing students were honored for their outstanding academic achievements at the April 24, 2007 San Diego Unified School District Board Meeting. These students were recognized for a variety of reasons ranging from robotics world championship competitions and state/county science fair honors to being city-wide essay contest winners. It was televised live on a local cable station. Congratulations!

Grand Prize Winner – Pershing’s 8th grade San Carlos Branch finalist and city winner of the Friends of the Library Essay Contest won another honor on May 3, 2007. At the Friends of the Library Essay Contest’s 10th Annual Awards Ceremony, she was named as one of the six Grand Prize Winners for the city’s 8th grade division. Mrs. Sullivan, Ms. Spicer, and Ms. Hemric all shared in the evening’s festivities, which were held at the Balboa Park Club.

Attention 7th Grade Parents - We have already starting planning next year’s 8th Grade East Coast Trip. The 2008 trip is scheduled for May 31, 2008 through June 7, 2008.  Information packets can be picked up from Mr. Budzynski (Room 1003).  Sign up by June 1, 2007 and save 5%. We already have 25 students signed up through Worldstrides. After the first 90 students, we will start a waiting list. Please direct any questions to -  rbudzynski@sandi.net

On May 18, 2007, Pershing’s Recognition Program will be held in the auditorium. This event is for those students who earned straight A’s, Perfect Attendance, and/or Excellence in Citizenship for the third reporting period. Invitations were mailed to the home addresses of the participating students.  Please click here for more information.
