After months of
planning, meetings, and many, many hours of hard work, the 2008
East Coast Trip team (73 students and their teacher chaperones)
left for the East Coast on June 1st. They had an amazing trip in
which they spent three nights in Washington D.C., one night in
Philadelphia, and two nights in New York City before returning to
San Diego on June 7, 2008. Some of the sights they saw during
their trip included the White House picture stop, Capitol Hill,
Supreme Court, Library of Congress, the Memorial of John J.
Pershing, National Archives Building, the Holocaust Museum,
Lincoln Memorial, Korean and Vietnam War Memorials, and Arlington
National Cemetery to see the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of
the Unknown Soldier. They also went to Mount Vernon, home of
George Washington, where Pershing participated in a special
Portrait Ceremony. Other trip highlights were the FDR Memorial,
Gettysburg Battlefield, National Constitution Center, Independence
Hall National Park, Congress Hall, Franklin Court, and the United
Nations Tour. The East Coast Trip team rode a ferry from Battery
Park to see Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty, walked through
the Financial District, Trinity Church, Wall Street, and Ground
Zero. The last night of the trip, they saw a great performance of
the Broadway musical, “Grease”.
