Overview
The Physical Education program in San Diego Unified School District adheres to the California State Physical Education Content Standards and is an integral part of the total educational process. Physical Education should focus on the development of motor skills and movement knowledge needed for lifetime of healthy and rewarding physical activity. Schools should provide all students in kindergarten through grade twelve (K-12) the opportunity, support, and encouragement to be physically active in unstructured play engaged in during recess and breaks, before and after school, during intramural games and club activities. The programs are geared to engage students in cooperative, competitive, and expressive activities to create personal, physical, mental, emotional, and social well being. All students are required to participate in physical education in grades K-8 and in the 9th grade and one additional year in grades 10-12.
