Enrollment Options Military families may apply to attend one of the district's 202 schools. There are 113 elementary schools, 23 middle or junior high schools, 27 high schools, 14 atypical or alternative schools, and 25 charter schools. To view a list of schools, or for information about a specific school, visit the district's Schools & Facilities directory and click on the name of the school. The district offers a variety of enrollment options to students and families: Neighborhood Schools Find out which schools are in your area. Magnet Programs Magnet schools use particular subject themes, such as science, humanities, art, music, performing arts, and second language acquisition to significantly enhance student learning in an integrated setting. In addition to a strong core curriculum, each magnet program receives additional resources that allows them to provide specialized themes, learning materials and equipment, staff, and much more. Learn more & apply. Voluntary Ethnic Enrollment Program (VEEP) Program VEEP is an integration program that encourages students from communities with diverse ethnic compositions to attend schools outside their neighborhood schools. Schools with predominantly White student enrollments are "paired" with schools having predominately non-White student enrollments in order to achieve a student body diversity that more closely reflects the composition of the district and the San Diego community. Through these paired school patterns, students in VEEP can participate in an integrated education from elementary through senior high school. Learn more & apply. School Choice Program The School Choice program provides students with the opportunity to attend a school other than their neighborhood school. The program allows students to apply to any school within the San Diego Unified School District, with the exception of magnet schools. Choice enrollment is limited to schools that have space available for additional students. The School Choice program does not provide transportation to student participants. Choice options may be limited. Learn more & apply. Program Improvement School Choice Program Improvement schools are those that have not met one or more achievement targets under the federal No Child Left Behind Act. Students attending these schools may be eligible to enroll in a non-Program Improvement school and receive transportation to the school at district expense. Learn more. Charter Schools Charter schools are public schools that may provide instruction in grades kindergarten through 12. Charter schools are usually created or organized by a group of parents, teachers and other educators, and community leaders or community-based organizations. An existing public school board usually authorizes charter schools. Learn more.
