Families will be notified by U.S. mail during the week of April 14th if their students have been selected for their first choice school. Second choice notifications will be made approximately two weeks later during the week of April 28th.
Transitional Kindergarten (TK)

The priority application period for the 2014-2015 school year was from Nov 1, 2013 to Feb 15, 2014.
Applications will not be accepted after the February 15th deadline unless the family is new to the district or a current San Diego Unified student has a change of residence. Proof of new residence is required.

Neighborhood Schools & Enrollment Options
San Diego Unified is proud to offer a variety of enrollment choices. The priority application period for the 2014-2015 school year ended on Feb 15, 2014.
School choice enrollment notifications begin during the week of April 14th by U.S. mail.
It is not necessary to submit a school choice application for attendance at your neighborhood school (contact them directly about enrollment). So please visit schools of interest, including your neighborhood school.

Contact the school directly for a tour and enrollment information. No School Choice applications are necessary when planning to attend your neighborhood school. .

- Program Improvement School Choice (PISC)
Available for San Diego Unified students attending a school that has not met one or more of its identified achievement targets for at least two years in a row.
- Magnet Programs
Provide in-depth, innovative, learning opportunities for students while meeting rigorous California state curriculum standards. Opportunities include STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math), STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math), International Baccalaureate Studies, MicroSociety, Paideia and Language Immersion. Voluntary Enrollment Exchange Program (VEEP)
VEEP allows students to attend other district schools. It is open to all students residing within a specific boundary of a school that has an approved VEEP pattern. Transportation is provided, but only within these VEEP patterns.
School Choice/Open Enrollment Act
Offers opportunities to apply to any school in the district on an availability basis only. School Choice students do not receive district provided transportation.
iHigh Virtual Academy is a WASC-accredited, online independent-study college-prep program for students in grades 9-12, offering either fulltime or part-time (dual) enrollment.
Transitional Kindergarten (TK)
Families with students who are age eligible for transitional Kindergarten (TK). These are students that will be five years old between Sept. 2 and Dec. 2. Students desiring enrollment in their neighborhood school can now go directly to the school for enrollment. All schools will have a program for transitional K students in the 2014-15 school year.
Students eligible for transitional Kindergarten (TK) can now apply to school choice via the district website at www.sandi.net/apply
, using the link that asks, "Is your child new to the district?". Families may continue to apply for TK on a space available basis.
The application for students will:
- Show as Grade Kindergarten for next year, student are age eligible for a two-year Kindergarten program (transitional Kindergarten).
- Be included on the school's Kindergarten choice enrollment list, but will be highlighted as transitional Kindergarten.

Charters operate independently of the San Diego Unified. Please contact each school directly about enrollment.
Every school and program supports the district’s commitment to ensure our students’ future success in college and career. Enrollment in these programs are available to all district students, including English Learners, Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) and Special Education students. Thousands of students take advantage of these programs and enrollment is limited by available space at each school. Submitting an online application is required during the open enrollment options application period which is from November 1, 2013 to February 15, 2014 for the 2014-15 school year beginning in September 2014.
