Who will hire the new superintendent?

A:

The Board of Education will hire the new superintendent, based on input from the community and Superintendent Search Advisory Committee. Hiring and overseeing the work of the Superintendent are among the Board's most important responsibilities.

Q:

Who will conduct the Superintendent Search?

A:

District staff will advertise the position in education-professional publications around the nation, as well as in California and San Diego. Applications will be screened by the District's Human Resources Department, then submitted to the Superintendent Search Advisory Committee for review. The committee will make recommendations to the Board of Education, which is free to choose any superintendent it wishes.

Q:

When will the new Superintendent be hired?

A:

The Board has set the goal of hiring the new superintendent by the beginning of the 2010-11 school year, Sept. 7.

How can I provide input during the search and hiring process?

A:

You can provide your opinions by taking the survey on this web page and you can attend the Search Committee or Board meetings on the topic. Public testimony is taken at all meetings; check back to this website for meeting notices.

Q:

Will the public have the opportunity to meet finalists?

A:

Yes. Once the Board identifies three finalists, each of the three final candidates will be invited to a public meeting to make a presentation to the community.
