If your school's website is on the new district system, calendar items should be first posted on your school calendar first. Please follow these guidelines.
Items must indicate whether they are open to the public. Events for parents are generally considered open to the public.
If they are during the school day and involve students, all students should have media releases.
If you wish for the item to be listed on the district calendar, please put the name of your school first.
Please follow the following format:
List the date, title of event (with your school name first), time of event, address of school, description, contact name and whether the event is open to the public. Example:
May 30 -- Birney Elementary School's Annual Rummage Sale and Pancake Breakfast, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., 4345 Campus Ave. (92103). Arts, crafts and just stuff will be available for purchase and rummaging through during the annual event, which goes to support the International Studies Magnet and other programs at the school. Contact: Amanda Hammond-Williams, principal. Information: (619) 497-3500.
You must include your school's address.
Be aware that the media may pick up these items. They may run a listing in the paper, send a photographer or want to do an article. If you do not want the media to cover your event, do not have it listed in the calendar.
Each Friday, the Communications Department publishes a list of events at individual schools. Media sometimes cover these events, so taking advantage of the Media Calendar is a great way to get the word out about your great school.
Listings should be 50 words or fewer and include the time, date, place and address of your event (even if it's at your school, we need to include the address).
Events listed in the Media Calendar are both those open to the public and those closed to the public but you"re inviting the media. Public events include open house, a community event, student play, art show or sports event. Events closed to the public but open to the media can be the visit of an interesting speaker, student-only shows and awards ceremonies.
Items submitted to the district website calendar may be in included; to ensure that your item is listed, please submit it in the following format directly to Jack Brandais, jbrandais@sandi.net.
