Parents' Guide to the Doyle Library

The Library is open every morning before school, during the school day and after school on Wednesdays.

All students and families have the opportunity to check out books at our school library. Kindergarten and first graders can only take out one book at a time during their library visits, but parents can check out 10 books at a time for each week's visit. Parents can sign up to get their own library check out account.

We hope that all Doyle families will have the opportunity to meet our librarian, Mrs. Mitchell. She works very hard to create aninviting place to browse andfall in love with reading.

Throughout the year Mrs. Mitchell hosts library events to benefit Doyle families and the library. Following is a list of events scheduled for the 2009-2010 school year.

The Book Exchange

Each October our Doyle Library holds a book exchange. This exchange is a great way to expand your home library without spending another cent!

For about three weeks our librarian, Mrs. Mitchell, collects books that students have read and/or outgrown and no longer want in their home collections. On the third Thursday of October those students who have contributed books to the exchange have the opportunity to return to the library and select up to 10books inexchange for those they brought in. The shopping values are calculated on the number and type of books brought in for the exchange.

Book Exchange POINT VALUES:

  • Hardback books = 2 points

  • Chapter books = 2 points

  • Paperback books = 1 point

  • Magazines = 1 point

  • Videos = 2 points

  • No board books please!

Read-A-Thon

The library is going to host its Read-A-Thon during the month of October. The Read-A-Thon is one of the major fundraising events we have to benefit the library. The funds raised form the event help the library buy new books. A flyer explaining how the Read-A-Thon will work will go home with all students in mid-October. We encourage all Doyle families to participate. Studentparticipationencourages readingand provides the students an opportunity to strengthen the library experience at Doyle.

Boxtops For Education/Online Marketplace = $ to Library

Box Tops for Education logo

Mrs. Mitchell collects Box Tops for Education that she turns in twice a year for funds to help our library. The Box Tops For Education are generallyworth 10 cents per label, multiply that by the over 800 students we have at Doyle and those little labels can add up to nice additions to our library. Your extra effort to turn in one or more labels is greatly appreciated! Please visit http://www.boxtops4education.com/AboutBoxTops/Products.aspx for a list of products that contain these labels.

Do you shop online? If so, consider joiningBox Tops Marketplace and go to their website before going to your favorite online store…your purchases will help earn Box Top money for our Library! http://www.boxtops4education.com/Marketplace/Default.aspx visit their site and check out all of their online partners!

Book Donations

The Doyle library was most fortunate to receive book donations from several families before the summer break. These books will be used to enrich our shelves with new copies and act as replacement copies for tired, well read books. We are always happy to receive donations at any time and work hard to find happy homes for all the books. Thanks again for thinking of Doyle library.
