About Our SchoolCubberley’s mission is to prepare students academically and socially so they will be contributing, highly productive citizens whose decision-making is based on strong core values in a global society. We have a strong academic focus with a standards-based curriculum in literacy, writing, science, social studies and mathematics. Our arts program includes ArtCorps and instrumental music. Our physical education program features a fitness circuit and running club. Located in Serra Mesa, Cubberley primarily serves resident families. About 25 percent speak a language other than English at home. Cubberley’s Guidance Center is an important part of our school. We offer a Character Education Program consisting of Peace Builders and Second Step. We also are a recipient of the Early Mental Health Initiative, qualifying us as an EMHI school. Cubberley CARES Program for grades K-3 provides one-on-one support for students in their adjustment to school. We also offer student support groups and parenting workshops. Parents and the community participate in student achievement. In addition to PTA and SSC/Governance activities, volunteers help in the classroom and serve as reading tutors. Our school also enjoys a partnership with Mesa College and UCSD, both of whom provide student tutors in reading and mathematics. At Cubberley, we are proud of our achievements. We are a six time recipient of the San Diego County Office of Education "Everyone a Reader " Diamond Award. We also welcome middle school student mentors from Taft Middle School. Cubberley is a neighborhood school that truly opens its doors to all! |
