About the Department

Our Purpose

The IT On-Site Support Department, formed in August 2006, is a team of 21 staff members whose focus is to provide quality support to schools in the areas of Zangle and Encore IEP beginning in late September/early October. We are here to:

  • Provide phone/email/chat support to schools’ Power Users;
  • Provide on-site (face-to-face) support to schools’ office staff and classroom teachers in the areas of Zangle and Encore IEP;
  • Improve the quality of data in Zangle by identifying existing data problems at schools and working with office staff to fix those problems; and
  • Refine users’ skills and increase the level of knowledge of Zangle and Encore throughout the district.

Organization

The district has been divided into five areas, matching the superintendent’s organizational structure.

  • Area 1: Clairemont, Madison, Point Loma, and University City High School Areas, plus SCPA
  • Area 2: Mira Mesa, Morse, and Scripps Ranch High School Areas
  • Area 3: Hoover, Kearny, and Serra High School Areas
  • Area 4: Crawford, Henry, and Lincoln High School Areas
  • Area 5: La Jolla, Mission Bay, and San Diego High School Areas

Zangle support. Each area has been assigned three Zangle On-Site Support team members. Within each area, the schools are divided and each Zangle support member "owns" a set of schools.

Encore support. Five Encore On-Site Support team members serve the entire district, working with a set of about 45 schools each.

Roles & Responsibilities

Our support staff members, affectionately referred to as "guardian angels," are a dynamic group. In sum, they are problem solvers, coaches, communicators, connectors, translators (techie-to-nontechie speak), data sleuths, and efficiency experts. They have the following roles and responsibilities:

  • Act as the #1 point of contact for their schools’ Power Users for Zangle and Encore issues.
  • Research problems in the office, acting as an extra set of eyes.
  • Visit his or her set of schools on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
  • Drive to the schools in emergency data situations.
  • Connect users to other schools in their area.
  • Collaborate with others on the support team.
  • Collaborate with a dedicated systems analyst.

It is important to note that the On-Site Support staff does not do data entry. Rather, the guardian angels empower school staff by guiding them to help get tasks completed accurately and efficiently. Additionally, this department does not replace the existing Zangle training, Encore training, or the IT Help Desk. Consider this group an extra layer of support to the existing structure.

Our Location

This department is located in Rooms B1 & B2 at the Fremont Training Center in Old Town. Our address is 2375 Congress St. (92110).
