SDUSD Budget Book coverSAN DIEGO – San Diego Unified’s 2008-09 $1.2 billion general fund budget, in a new, user-friendly format, is now available online.

The budget is based on funding levels issued in the Governor’s May Revised Estimate, released on May 15. Under state law, school districts must have an approved, balanced spending plan by June 30 each year. The fiscal year begins July 1.

“We believe our proposed budget, despite fiscal adversity, does help us grow and graduate students,” wrote Dr. Terry Grier, Superintendent, in his introduction to the budget, “who are ready to take on higher education or a career -- or both -- and be part of a globally competitive environment in which they’ll thrive.”

As part of Grier’s first budget as superintendent, the district’s central office staff is being reorganized to better serve schools, families and students.

“This realignment puts a laser-like focus on our instructional programs,” he wrote, “and we believe our proposed budget maximizes this focus to more effectively deliver educational services to all students.”

The new “Budget Book” was developed based on a request by the Board of Education to present the document in a new format.
