News Release:
One-Stop Enrollment Center Opens July 23
For New, Transferring San Diego Unified Students and Preschoolers
July 17, 2007
SAN DIEGO – Enrolling a child in a new school can be a pain. Lines on the first day of school can be long, there are forms to fill out and if your family has children in more than one school – elementary, middle and high school – it can mean hauling the kids around from one school to another.
Now, for parents of students new to any of the nearly 200 San Diego Unified School District campuses, from July 23 through August 25, enrollment is all in one spot – Roosevelt Middle School in Balboa Park – and there will even be childcare and free parking.
“We really wanted to take a lot of the pain out of enrolling new students,” said Sandy Robles, Office of Enrollment Options Program Manager. “Having an enrollment center is much more efficient as parents can not only enroll all their kids, but find out about all kinds of school choices that are available in our district.”
The center will be located at Roosevelt Middle School, 3366 Park Boulevard, next to the San Diego Zoo in Balboa Park, right off Interstate 5 and state Route 163. Enrollment services are available for all district schools except charter schools, which handle their own registration.
Center staff can enroll multiple siblings, students new to the district, and students attending a different school from the previous year. Parents can check immunizations, visit with a district counselor, learn about transportation and discover the wide variety of programs available, including State-subsidized preschool options.
The center is open from noon to 7 p.m., Mon-Wed, July 23 to August 8; Mon-Fri, Aug. 13-24. On Sat, Aug. 25, the center is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. After Aug. 25, parents can register at their child’s school. Call (619) 725-5672 for more information or view the English
