Pacific Beach Middle Students Making a Difference

PB International Baccalaureate Students Help Clean UpAn integral component of the Pacific Beach IB Middle Years Programme is that all students must participate in service to local and global communities. To help students bring their learning alive, the IB World School has adopted an "International Waters" theme for the 2008-09 school year.

These committed students are making a difference. In addition to participating in the Coastal Clean-Up, many PB Middle surfers took action by grabbing their boards and hitting the waves in the annual Paddle for Clean Water. Each grade has a specific service focus. Sixth graders can attend a monthly meeting with featured speakers to learn more about global water issues. Seventh grade teams have adopted a beach near the school. Grade eight students are designing and installing a world-themed mosaic to remind the community to care for our earth.

Global-minded PB students are excited to meet or beat last year's record of 11,800 hours of community service logged between September 2007 and June 2008.
