Teacher Inquiry Project Results
Tuesday, June 15, 2004

In an unprecedented effort to help district teachers continue to improve their teaching skills, the 2003-2004 Teacher Inquiry Project has concluded with more than 220 district teachers and staff developers sharing the results of their year-long research efforts.

The Teacher Inquiry Project serves as an action research project for teachers to identify what prevents students from learning optimally. Participants were asked to:
  • Pose questions about their teaching practice
  • Test theories through planning and instruction
  • Gather and analyze data
  • Reach conclusions based on findings
  • Derive implications for changing practice
  • Put new learning into practice that ensures student academic success
Teacher and staff developer participants came from elementary schools throughout San Diego City Schools, ranging in years of experience from one to 40, with the majority of participants having spent at least 10 years in the district, and from areas including Special Education, GATE and the English Learner program.
