API 2000 INDEX SCORES SUMMARY FOR SAN DIEGO CITY SCHOOLS

ALL SCHOOLS:

  • In 2000, 151 schools received 2000 API scores from the California Department of Education. Scores are computed from the spring 2000 Stanford 9 standardized achievement test taken by most state public school students. In 1999, 162 schools received API scores.
     
  • In 2000, 29 of 151 received API scores at or above 800. On the CDE scale of 200 to 1000, 800 or above represents a high-performing school.
     
  • In 1999, 16 schools received an 800 score or higher.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS:

  • In 2000, 110 received API scores. In 1999, 120 received scores.
     

  • 24 received a 2000 score 800 or higher. In 1999, 13 received 800 or higher.
     

  • 74 received a 2000 score 675 or higher. 675 is the 2000 score set by state to represent an average performing elementary school. In 1999, 72 schools had scores at or above the 1999 average set at 631.
     

  • 36 received a 2000 score 675 or lower. In 1999, 48 schools had scores below the 631 average.
     

  • 14 did not receive 2000 scores because of testing irregularities or high number of parent waivers at the schools, voluntarily reported to state testing officials by the district.

MIDDLE/JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOLS:

  • In 2000, 23 received API scores. In 1999, 22 received scores.
     

  • 4 received a 2000 score 800 or higher. In 1999, 2 received 800 or higher.
     

  • 13 received a 2000 score 657 or higher. 657 is the 2000 score set by state to represent an average performing middle/junior high school. In 1999, 11 schools had scores at or above the 1999 average set at 633.
     

  • 10 received a 2000 score 657 or lower. In 1999, 11 schools had scores below the 633 average.
     

  • 2 did not receive 2000 scores. 

HIGH SCHOOLS:

  • In 2000, 18 received API scores. In 1999, 20 received scores.
     

  • 1 received a 2000 score 800 or higher, the same as in 1999.
     

  • 9 received a 2000 score 636 or higher. 636 is the 2000 score set by state to represent an average performing high school. In 1999, 8 schools had scores at or above the 1999 average set at 620.
     

  • 9 received a 2000 score 636 or lower. In 1999, 12 schools had scores below the 620 average.
