RE:    PARENT TOWN HALL MEETINGS BRING TOGETHER PARENTS
AND SUPERINTENDENT-DESIGNATE ALAN BERSIN

A series of town hall-type meetings to allow superintendent-designate Alan Bersin to meet with parents in each of the five districts of the Board of Education opens this week.  The schedule of meetings is as follows:

District C (John deBeck) Thursday, April 30 Point Loma High School
District B (Sue Braun) Wednesday, May 13 Serra High School
District E (Edward Lopez) Tuesday, May 19 O'Farrell Community School
District A (Fran Zimmerman) Monday, June 1 University City High School
District D (Ron Ottinger) Thursday, June 4 Roosevelt Jr. High School

“This will give me an opportunity to touch base with parents, hear their concerns about their child’s education and get their input about improving student performance,”  said Bersin.  “If I can do this before Dr. Pendleton retires, I’ll have a good head start in understanding what parents expect from public schools.

All meetings will be from 7-8:30 p.m.  A district PTA leader will greet the audience and introduce the “host” board member who will, in turn, introduce Bersin.  After making a brief presentation, he will open the remainder of the meeting for questions and answers.

Flyers announcing the town hall meetings have been sent to all school sites to be sent home with students and circulated at various school site functions.  Additionally, a flyer announcing all the meetings will be inserted in the May PTA Newsletter and put up on the district’s website, www.sdcs.k12.ca.us.
