MONROE CLARK MIDDLE SCHOOL DEDICATION AND STATUE UNVEILING
The dedication of one of San Diego Unified School District's new and unique middle schools will take place on Nov. 19, 1997, at 10 a.m. The two-story Monroe Clark Middle School is designed for house style education. House style features decentralized small groups of students interacting with the same team of five or six teachers. The school provides an applied learning lab and a privately funded extended day program for 180 students. The City Heights' area school educates sixth, seventh and eighth grade students in a school to career focus.
The Proposition O-financed Monroe Clark Middle School opened in September 1997. It was designed by Wolff/Lang/Christopher Architects Inc., and douglas e. barnhart, inc. was the general contractor who supervised construction of the 148,368 square foot building area.
San Diego Unified School District Board Members, and Superintendent Bertha Pendleton will speak at the dedication ceremony held in the Monore Clark Middle School amphitheater at 4388 Thorn Street. The event will also mark the unveiling of the Monroe Clark Statue by Mrs. Gerrie Watters. Mr. Clark, who died in 1994, supported many high school sporting teams in the area. Guided tours of the school will follow the ceremony.
